A lot of buyers find a car online and immediately start imagining owning it. That is the problem. Photos and descriptions only ever show the part of the story the seller wants you to see.
Before you drive across Sydney, spend your weekend inspecting a car, or start negotiating with someone who does this every week, I can review the listing first.
Sometimes the best decision is not buying the car.
My job is to tell you that before you waste your time or your money.
An ad is a sales document. It is written to make you drive out and see the car, because the seller knows that once you are standing in front of it, you are already half committed. You have spent your Saturday. You have pictured yourself in it. Walking away now feels like admitting you wasted the day.
That is the trap. Not the car. The drive.
A listing review costs you a fraction of an inspection and takes me half an hour. If it stops one pointless trip across Sydney it has paid for itself in fuel and a Saturday. If it stops you buying the wrong car, it has paid for itself many times over.
Carsales, Marketplace, Gumtree, a dealer site. Whatever you have found. If you have already messaged the seller, forward me what they said, because how someone answers a question tells me as much as the answer itself.
PPSR check, real market comparison, a proper look at the photos and the description. I am not skimming it. I am reading it the way I read a car I am about to inspect, because that is the job.
Worth your Saturday, or not. If it is worth seeing, I will tell you what to ask and what to look at when you get there. If it is not, I will tell you why, and you have got your weekend back.
I never take a cent from a dealer, a seller, a finance broker or a mechanic. My only pay cheque is yours.

Same day for most listings. Good cars sell in 48 hours and I know it, so I do not sit on these.
Then I tell you it is fine and what I would offer. A listing review that says go for it is worth just as much as one that says walk, because now you are not second guessing yourself.
No. This is a desk job. I am reading the ad, the history and the seller, not putting my hands on the car. It is the step before an inspection, and it saves a lot of people from booking one they did not need.
No. A lot of listing reviews end with me telling you not to bother, and that is the whole point. I would rather tell you to walk away than sell you an inspection on a car I already know is wrong.
